The Respiratory Inductance Plethysmograph (RIP) Suit
Wires are sewn into the vest at the rib cage and abdomen levels. The circuitry in the
Digital Sleep Recorder takes the signals from these two wires to measure the cross-sectional area of the thorax
at the two levels. This measurement is used to measure the relative contributions of the rib cage and abdomen to
breathing, and to look for thoraco-abdominal asynchrony. |
