| The UCSD NASA Lab has conducted its ground research both in its
laboratories in San Diego, CA as well as at research facilities that aren't
actually on the ground. Frequently this research has been
conducted aboard
NASA's KC-135
microgravity research plane, commonly referred to as the "Vomit Comet".
During these experiments the researchers take turns acting as the subjects to optimize the
scientific return of the flight. In this way there are no wasted bodies aboard the plane. Both the
bolus experiment and the aerosol deposition experiment were
conducted aboard the KC-135.
Occasionally, UCSD researchers fly to Europe to collaborate with colleagues from the
Biomedical Physics Laboratory, Université
Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium. They have also collaborated in experiments performed aboard the ESA
Airbus A-300 microgravity plane operated by
Novespace out of the Bordeaux-Mérignac International Airport.
